Although electric two-wheelers are becoming more popular, mainstream manufacturers have been slow to expand their EV portfolio. For example, BMW Motorrad only currently offers the CE-04 as part of its EV lineup. However, BMW is developing its first electric motorcycle based on the G310R, which is good news for consumers. Following BMW's lead, TVS may also release its own sub-15kW electric motorcycle, and could even manufacture BMW's electric motorcycle, as they do with the ICE-based G310R and G310GS.
Patent images show that BMW's electric G310R will have a similar design to the ICE-based G310R, but with borrowed powertrain components from the CE-04, such as the battery pack and motor. However, fitting these components into the G310R frame required several tweaks, including placing the battery pack vertically and under the front section of the bike to cool it. The motor is positioned under the seat and connected to a bevel gear, which transfers power to the front sprocket via a reduction gearbox. Other components, including the ECU and charger, are also borrowed from the CE-04.
Assuming the G310R electric borrows the battery pack and motor from the CE-04 in the same format, it could generate up to 42 hp of max power and 62 Nm of peak torque, surpassing the ICE-powered G310R's output of 34 hp and 28 Nm. However, due to the cost of the battery pack and other components, the G310R electric is expected to be more expensive than the ICE version. The CE-04 is currently priced at $11,795 in the US, but the TVS version may be more affordable.
